*Spelling test 23 will be Wednesday, April 17th
*Math MCA tests will be Tues.-Thurs. this week. A healthy breakfast and a good night of sleep will help your child perform well on the test.

It is the end of 3rd quarter already! The students do not have school Thursday & Friday this week. Report cards will be sent home April 5th.

Since it is the Twins opener on Thursday, we thought it would be fun to wear our twins gear on Wednesday!

Math tests from unit 6 will be sent home today. Our next spelling test will be 4/5/19

We are beginning the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey.  We will be learning about one habit each week.  1) Be Proactive 2) Begin with the End in Mind 3) Put First Things First 4) Think Win-Win 5) Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
6) Synergize 7) Sharpen the Saw.

  • Unit 6: Investigations in Measurement, Decimal Multiplication & Division
  • Unit 7: MCA prep, Multiplication of Mixed Numbers, Geometry, Graphs, Mean, Median & Mode
  • The best way to help your child is to encourage them to work on math skills in ixl each night - they know specific skills to work on for each math lesson.  

Readers Workshop
  • Read 20-30 minutes/night - 40 book genre challenge  
  • Language Arts/Reading Skills - Text features, poetry, point of view.

Writer’s Workshop -
  • Finish Poetry Unit
  • MCA language arts test prep

Recommended Nightly Homework
  • Read 20-30 Minutes
  • Practice Spelling Words for Test Fridays
  • Math - ixl.com 10 minutes, homework as assigned

Important dates: Febuary 8th- PJ Day in room 126 
  *Febuary 14 - Valentine's Day Party
  *Febuary 15-19 No School

Valentine's Party: Students can bring their boxes anytime. We will be having a decorated box contest. Information went home on Friday. If you choose to pass out Valentines, please bring enough for all 27 students. Students may bring a beverage of their choice for the afternoon party.

The spelling Bee was 5th -8th grades. Our Helen Dodds made it to the 6th round. We are so proud of her! The winner, after 14 rounds, was Aili Toyli from 8th grade.

SUMDOG MATH CONTEST: Our class took 5th out of 41 classes. I was so impressed with the effort put into this sompetition. The students answered thousands of math questions! Our Trevor Rounds took 2nd overall!!!

Report cards are going home today. Please email me with any questions.

This Week~
*Sumdog Math Contest continues. Let's win this one!
*Targeted Services on Tuesday
*Book orders are due Friday, the 25th., the online code is P4R82.
*Spelling: leveling tests will be given to determine if students are ready to move up.
* Math: Unit 5 covers operations with fractions. IXL will be very helpful.
* Writer's Workshop: we will continue the process of writing an opinion paper.
*Reader's Workshop: Novel study of Number the Stars
*Science: Ecosystems and invasive species

We are half way done with the year. How are you doing on your reading goal? It is so important to have good homework habits. 20 minutes of reading each night, spelling pracitce and IXL for a total of 30-40 minutes of homework.
